The George Inn - A Very Warm Welcome!

Photo of Christmas illuminations outside The George Inn, in aid of Cancer Research UK.

We've had an incredibly successful three years here at The George, but in that time we've also had our fair share of tragedy. The loss of Rob's father, Reg, last year shortly before Christmas came as a big blow to us all and then on Christmas Day Rob's Godmother, Brenda Jones, lost her heroic battle against cancer.

Through the following months Brenda's husband, Alun, and all of our family friends were a great source of comfort. So this year, we really wanted to do something to give a bit back and show appreciation to our loved ones, our community and all of you who've helped us through the past three years.

With this in mind we decided to expand our usual Christmas display around to the front of the pub and increase its size. We also wanted to raise money for Cancer Research UK in honour of Brenda. Rob and Alun set to work on the display, and have outdone themselves!

As part of the display we have a Wishing Tree and also a large Nativity scene. At the front you'll see some cards and envelopes where you can write down your wish and put it into the envelope along with your donation. We will then hang your card on the Wishing Tree. The response from the community has already been great, and people started making donations even before the lights went on 26th November (we'll be keeping the display running until January 6th).

For the same cause we are also running a raffle at the bar, and we've had generous donations of prizes from businesses that we have the good fortune to deal with.

The response to all of this really reinforces to us how important it is to take an active part in our community and, among other activities, we've been proud to offer support this year to Cwmtwrch RFC Juniors and the Cwm Ramblers.

Every year we also select a local OAP group to come for a free Christmas lunch, and we are now getting ready to accept applications for 2014. If you are part of any local voluntary or community run OAP group of up to 40 members then please do write to us to be considered for next year.

From a business point of view this year has, once again, exceeded all our expectations and we have been overwhelmed with the enthusiasm, loyalty and goodwill of our customers. Thank you all.

Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2014. See you in the New Year!

Rob, Jayne and family.

The George Inn country pub and restaurant is set in a small village in a Welsh Valley called Cwmtwrch, approximately fifteen miles north of Swansea.

A notable feature of Cwmtwrch is the Ffynnon which is a natural spring. The name Cwmtwrch (Welsh language: 'Valley of the Wild Boar') derives from the "Twrch Trwyth" a mythical wild boar of King Arthur's legends and the ancient Welsh folklore tales of the Mabinogion in early Welsh literature.

The George Inn country pub and restaurant has a traditional style coupled with a unique sense of bespoke home cooking. It is now owned by Rob, Jayne and family, who have been at the restaurant since 2010, and have already achieved the highest possible accomodation for hygiene at a 5-star rating. The George Inn offers you the best service and highest quality whilst remaining fairly priced. It's moto is "Dine at the George, where quality doesn't cost!"

We hope to see you soon,
Rob and Jayne
